Roxborough State Park is known for its amazingly dramatic red sandstone rock formations. Established in 1975, the park is set on 3,339 acres of natural Colorado beauty. While walking through the park you can see a host of wildlife such as mountain lions to mule deer. Visitors can also see over 140 species of birds, 42 of these species nest in the park. Bird watchers can often see canyon wren, broad-tailed humminbirds, and burrowing owls to name a few. Here is a full list of birds observed at the park. Roxborough State Park also has over 50 species of butterflies, moths and skippers. The park is also home to many reptiles such as the milk snake, prairie rattlesnake, snapping turtle and chorus frog to name a few.
The Roxborough State Park has a series of hiking trails rated for every level of hiker, from easy to advanced. Elevation of the park ranges from 5,900 to 7,280 feet above sea level.
